Homes for Sale in Killeen, TX

Killeen is the largest city in the Fort Hood area and the one most buyers end up comparing everything else to. It sits directly against the post's main gates, so for a lot of families the decision is not whether to live in Killeen but which part of it. Right now there are about 843 active listings across the city, which means real choice — and it also means pricing, condition and location matter more than ever when you make an offer.

What is on the market in Killeen right now

Killeen covers a wide range. You will find entry-level and first-home inventory in the older core and along the eastern side of town, mid-range family homes in the established subdivisions, and newer construction on the growing edges — particularly west and southwest Killeen near the post and the SH-195 corridor. Because inventory is deep, buyers here have genuine leverage: a well-priced home sells, and an overpriced one sits while the seller wonders why.

If you want a sense of what your budget actually buys before you start touring, run the affordability numbers first and then let Amanda show you the homes that match.

Commute times to Fort Hood

This is Killeen's biggest advantage. Depending on which side of the city you land on and which gate your unit uses, most Killeen addresses are a 5 to 15 minute drive to the main gates. The main gate (Bernie Beck) sits just off I-14, and west Killeen puts you closest to the post while still keeping you near shopping and services. If you are PCSing, it is worth confirming your reporting gate before you fall in love with a house — the same street can be 10 minutes different depending on where you actually work on post.

Schools

Killeen is served by Killeen ISD, one of the larger districts in Central Texas, with a wide range of elementary, middle and high school campuses. District boundaries — not city limits — drive assignments, so two homes on the same street can occasionally feed different schools. Amanda checks the assignment for the specific address before you write an offer, not after.

Where to look in Killeen

The city is best understood in sections rather than as one market:

  • West and southwest Killeen — closest to the post, convenient to SH-195, popular with military families who want the shortest possible commute.
  • North Killeen — closer to Harker Heights retail and dining, at the cost of a few extra minutes to the gate.
  • Established central and east Killeen — often the best value per square foot, with larger lots and mature trees.
  • Newer communities such as Estancia West and Saratoga Homes in Heritage Oaks, with more current floor plans and finishes.
